"Better When I'm Dancing..."

It's been a bit since I last blogged, but i'm back! Since kiddos are heading back to school and many people are considering new activities for their kids, I think it's the perfect time to share our beliefs at On Pointe and how dance is so beneficial for EVERYONE!

Sometimes we get so overwhelmed with wanting kids to be the best that we forget that they are KIDS and activities still need to be fun and enjoyable. I have always believed that once a person loves something, they will work hard to be their best at it. At On Pointe, we focus on helping dancers find their passion (and of course teach them proper technique), but they must first be interested to get the most out of class.

Kids nowadays have so much added pressure on them...more than most of us over 30 had as a child. At On Pointe, we really focus on creating a positive and HEALTHY atmosphere for everyone...students, staff and families. Part of this is selfish, I don't want to be at a job that isn't fun so I try to lead with structure but also with kindness and encouragement. As a young dancer, I would get really stressed when my teachers yelled at me because I was already trying my best. While demanding the best out of a dancer is definitely part of our program, I don't believe in flat out yelling at dancers to get them to achieve a goal.

The awesome thing about dance is there is truly a style for everyone...ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, hip hop, ballroom, acrobatics, line dancing, the list goes on! I challenge you to turn on your favorite song and start dancing and see if you aren't automatically in a better mood. How dance can make us feel is absolutely why I love it so much and love sharing it with the students at On Pointe.

Beyond just feeling great, dance provides so many benefits for people physically, mentally and emotionally. A few benefits dance provides are improved cardiovascular health, improved balance and strength, boosts cognitive performance, helps boost your mood and improves motor skills (you can read more about the benefits of dance at https://www.healthline.com/health/fitness-exercise/benefits-of-dance#benefits).

If you've been thinking about getting in a class or having your child try a new style of dance...I would say, what are you waiting for? Beginning level classes are open to everyone and ANYONE can dance. I look forward to seeing you in class!
